Michael Nash, ‘Nasher’, started spinning records at the tender age of 12 (2000). By the time he was 15, he’d won 2nd place in the UK National Oxy-DJ Competition. His outstanding journey had begun. At 16 (2004), Nasher was regularly DJing clubs all over London, including The Works in Kingston, SeOne in London Bridge, Trap Club in Wardour Street, Scala in Kings Cross and many more.
Then in 2005, Nasher decided to step up his game and attended a DJ course at ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music) in Guildford. It is here that he completed a Foundation Degree in Music Production, Music Business and DJing skills. 2005 also saw Nasher win a major radio competition, staged over several live heats, on the UK’s biggest dance and urban radio station, Kiss100. The Prize? A weekly show for him and the crew, Dangerous Minds. It made Nasher the youngest ever DJ on legal radio in the UK – at just 17 – and allowed him to meet and learn from some of the biggest DJ’s in the world. The show catered for all the latest Garage, UK Hip-Hop and Grime.
Along with his Degree and Kiss100 radio show, Nasher continued to play out all over London and the home counties at clubs such as Oceana Kingston, Camouflage in Wardour Street (700+), Bar 38 with Garage Nation, to name but a few.
After more than a year on the show, Nasher decided to leave Kiss100 and concentrate on developing a new career as an electro and progressive house DJ, as well as Producer. A tough call to make, but Nasher feared being typecast as just a Grime & Urban DJ.
By 19 (2007), DJ Nasher had been scouted by A&R Manager James Crompton at Universal Music Group. An introduction to successful producer Sacha Collisson led to them collaborating together on a remix of ‘Desert Rose’ by Sting. Whilst continuing to DJ at clubs around the country, Nasher decided to expand his production skills and built a music studio to enable him to work from home.
At the end of 2007 Nasher spent several weeks touring Ibiza as well as travelling throughout the UK playing at University Freshers nights (Durham University, Imperial College London, etc) plus a monthly residency in Portsmouth. Throughout 2008, he continued playing popular clubs such as Cafe De Paris, Turnmills, J12 in Reading and various clubs in Brighton and London. Nasher also continued to produce, working with artists such as Klumzy Tung, Beardyman (UK Beatbox Champion 3 years running), Aggro, Marcie Phonix & Hypa Fenn, Darnell (of “Big Brother” fame) and more.
In 2009, DJ Nasher continues to build his reputation by DJing at some of London’s top clubs as well as planning the release of a series of up-and-coming tracks. These incorporate his own sound and cover genres such as electro/progressive/hip-hop and pop, as well as collaborations with some of the UK’s best producers.
Note / in 2005, aged 17, Nasher was diagnosed with both Aplastic Anaemia and an exceptionally rare blood disease (Paroxysmal Nocturnal Haemoglobinuria). Despite this huge set back, and with various complications along the way, he has shown a determination, perseverance and strength of character that will get him to the top!!!
